“Heartbreak & Beauty” is an award-winning short, experimental film depicting 12 different perspectives on universal, human emotions – all revolving around ‘love’ in its multifaceted glory. Our students contributed greatly to this film project – writing scripts, performing and directing various segments to create a picture of inclusivity as they break stigma and encourage empathy.

With skillful use of visual metaphor, dance and poetry, “Heartbreak & Beauty” shows us how we’re all connected through our shared experiences of love and loss, all from the perspectives of twelve people living with an intellectual disability.

In 2014, twelve students from Bus Stop Films with an intellectual disability embarked on the journey of creating a short experimental film about how all of humanity is connected through emotion. Across 10 months, students worked together to create various scenes that explored the pain and joy of the human experience.
